Hey Globalers--Here is my language learning tip for the day: In order to move to the other side, one must interact with people as much as possible, and be who he or she is in real life, i.e. Be real! Also, one will know when he or she has arrived to the other side, when one feels the change, something like walking through a cold front or crossing a rip tide on a boat--you will know it and then you will be there in the language and in the culture and you will never be the same. So, just relax and let go, because you will no longer be thinking in your native language--you will have reached the Zen level of communication (see Inner Tennis and Inner Skiing for more examples)--otherwise known as automaticity by most linguists. However, I think the Zen philosophy is more fascinating, however, and certainly more adventurous if not highly tantalizing, than pure linguistics. Oh, alas, allow me to close for now lest I write myself into oblivion...seaya!
