Speaking of mysteries, here is one of my favorite movie quotes from the film, Shakespeare in Love: I don't know. It's a mystery. I love this line which is cleverly repeated throughout the film. And now, when I don't know an answer to a question, or if I want to encourage the element of surprise in conversation with my students, friends and family members, or a sense of wonder, I'll simply answer: I don't know. It's a mystery. This response always seems to trigger a slight smile, and often even a little friendly slanting of the eyes, or better yet an unsolicited wink...I am in love with so many films--particularly when they provide me with rich discourse and new ways of thinking and feeling about life...I suppose life, then, in my view, is a film and if a film is good, then, alas, life is good. Tja, Leben ist gut.
